Presentation

The Psychiatric Department of Timisoara University of Medicine and Pharmacy was founded in 1950, by Professor Dr.Eduard Pamfil who was the head of the department until 1978. Since then, the psychiatric department was headed by:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. St. Stossel: 1978-1983
Prof. Dr. Mircea Lazarescu: 1983-2009
Prof. Dr. Pompilia Dehelean: 2009-2011, former vice rector of Timisoara University of Medicine
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Monica Ienciu: 2009-2017
At Present Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liana Dehelean is head of the department

Beside local and national conferences, our department organized two international conferences of Psychopathology (1992, 1994), two Danubian Symposiums of Psychiatry (1996, 2012) and a Franco-Romanian Conference with the participation of French and Romanian professor of psychiatry.

The collaboration with psychotherapists from Clermont-Ferrand (France) and fellow psychiatrists from the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry resulted into a 5 years formation in systemic familial therapy of two generations of psychiatrists, psychologists, general physicians, and social workers.

The department trained continuously medical students and residents in psychiatry offering postgraduate lectures in different psychiatric fields cooperating with several psychology departments (masterships). Members in our department participated at 3 field trials for ICD 10, at several international multicentre randomized clinical trials, and at the European First Episode Schizophrenia Trial (EUFEST).
